Clubs and Societies
Joining a club is a great way to make some new friends and get involved while you are studying at the University of Newcastle. There are over 100 clubs and societies on campus with something for everyone including sporting, social, cultural and religious groups. Clubs and societies must choose to affiliate with or become financially supported by one of the student organisations on campus, depending on the type of club.
Affiliation and financial support arrangements give your club additional support and ensures you are doing the right thing by your members, as well as making sure you are insured for all your club’s activities. Sporting clubs must affiliate with NUsport, while social clubs (political, academic, social, cultural or spiritual) can choose to affiliate with or become financially supported by one of many groups, one of which is Student Central.
Did you know that UON Student Central offers heaps of FREE services to clubs? You can choose to become supported by us for the full range of support and subsidies, or simply register* to access the basic range of services.
*To register with Student Central in 2015, you must be affiliated with another association on campus (Faculty, NUsport, NUPSA, NUSA, Campus Central).
What's the difference between registration and financial support through Student Central?
There's not much difference. Registration still means that you'll receive the amazing discounts and other support mechanisms we have in place. It simply means that you cannot apply for financial subsidies from Student Central.
Check out our Clubs and Societies Guide for full details of what we do for registered and affiliated Clubs and Societies.
